Small web apps for human service nonprofits

I'm a software engineer. Human service nonprofits hire me to build small web apps that save them time - usually by replacing a spreadsheet that's gotten too important to lose.

Projects

A few things I've built

A community resource directory

A searchable list of services - hours, eligibility, contact info - that doesn't require an engineer to maintain.

A volunteer sign-up app

A place for volunteers to claim shifts so the coordinator isn't running the schedule out of their inbox, or text messages...

A volunteer instructions app

Step-by-step guides for the people doing the work, so the knowledge doesn't live in one head and the people they serve get consistent care.

About

Why I do this

I'm a Principal Software Engineer with over a decade of building mission-critical, public-facing websites and the systems behind them.

Outside of work I cook a meal once a month at a transitional home for women and children. I coordinate dinners at a night shelter two weeks a year. And I meet with men coming out of prison or off the street.

I do paid engineering for the nonprofits doing this work, and I volunteer alongside them. It's how I work toward a world where everyone gets a second chance and is seen with dignity.
